Twitter Launches Location-Based Tweeting

Micro-blogging giant Twitter has announced the launch of Twitter Places, a new location-based feature for the popular platform.

Users will now be able to tag their current location in the tweets they send.

Twitter Places will allow users to tag locations, create new Twitter Places - and even search for tweets coming from a specific location.

The company has also said that Twitter Places will integrate with Foursquare and Gowalla, allowing users to view tweets and check-ins from Foursquare and Gowalla when they click on a specific Twitter Place.

Twitter Places has been made available for both mobile and desktop versions of platform, offering location tagging features on Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox.

Twitter is also working on bringing the new feature to the official Twitter app for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android platforms.

The company said: “Over the next week, we will roll this out to users in 65 countries around the world, so keep an eye out for the 'Add your location' link below the Tweet box.”
