Cisco Authorises Avnet And Ingram To Configure UCS Servers

Cisco has authorised IT distributors Avnet Technology Solutions and Ingram Micro to configure its C-series blade servers, based on Cisco's Unified Computing Systems (UCS) architecture.

Cisco said companies will help enterprise users of C-series blade servers to configure the servers' processors, memory, hard drives and adapters according to their needs.

Chris Swahn, vice president of Avnet Technology's Cisco Solutions group, said: "We will give partners access to the devices as they are being built, and let them download software during the process. Customers and end users will have the ability to dial into their servers."

He added that his company has already received several advance orders for Cisco's C-series blade servers, set to arrive at its Arizona centre in a couple of weeks.

Cisco's UCS technology is designed to reduce costs and improve performance by combining blade servers, networking and storage devices into a single architecture.

The technology also combines Cisco's core switching and routing products, security, and VoIP into an integrated system.
