Yahoo Launch Mail, Messenger Apps For Android

Yahoo has released app versions of its Mail, Search and Messenger services for Google's Android mobile operating system.

The company has also updated the iOS 4 versions of the applications, increasing their HTML 5 compatibility to enable better desktop integration.

The Yahoo apps for Android will be available for as a free download on the Android Marketplace and will run on Android 2.0 or higher.

Some of the features that come with the apps include contact syncing and push email notifications, the ability to send instant SMS messages to Yahoo contacts and upload photos to the internet directly from the phone.

In a statement, senior Yahoo executive David Ko said: “With the availability of our world-class Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger apps for Android and by harnessing the latest in HTML5, we're making it easier than ever for consumers to access fast, reliable, and feature-rich Yahoo experiences across some of the fastest-growing platforms in the market.”
