Microsoft's Kin mobile handsets have been remembered in an online memorial following the company's decision to pull the plug on the smartphone after poor sales.
A Microsoft user held an online memorial for both the Kin One and Kin Two the smartphone devices.
At the time of the smartphone's launch, the company had said that the devices were targeted specifically at young smartphone users, and were designed to offer users close integration with social networking platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Kin One and Kin Two managed to sell around 10,000 units in six weeks before Microsoft decided to discontinue the product, making it one of the shortest running Microsoft products.
The luke-warm response the phone received was mainly due to its high price and lack of any new or different features.
The online memorial service page, which was visited by 32,000 people, noted: “This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Microsoft Kin who was born on May 13, 2010 and passed away on June 30, 2010. We will remember her forever.”
