Microsoft's Ballmer to Speak at CES 2011

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has been invited by the Consumer Electronics Association to give the opening key note address at the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in January next year.

The CEO, who had been rumoured to be speaking at Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC), also spoke at the CES 2010. At this year's show, Ballmer revealed a number of Windows 7-based tablet devices - though none of them has yet come to the market.

Conference chief Gary Shapiro, the head of the CEA, said in a statement that “As leader of one of the world's most innovative technology companies, a keynote address from Steve Ballmer is the perfect way to kick off the 2011 International CES."

Microsoft, which has recently suffered a string of failed consumer devices including its Courier tablet and Kin social networking smartphone, will be looking to improve its consumer consumer track record by making a significant announcement at next year's show.
