Sony PS3 Outsells Xbox 360 By 28 Per Cent

The Sony PlayStation 3 games console has outsold Microsoft's Xbox 360 by 28 per cent, gaming news site VG247 has reported.

Figures released by Sony show that the company sold 14.3 million PS3 consoles in the financial year ending on 30 June - more than the the 10.3 million Xbox 360 consoles sold by Microsoft during the same period.

The figures show a reversal in fortunes from last year, when Xbox 360 sales eclipsed PS3 sales by 11.1 million units to 9.6 million.

The rise in the sales of PS3 is being credited to the price cuts implemented by Sony and the release of the 'slim' version, making the console more attractive than the Xbox 360 to consumers.

In overall sales, however, Microsoft has still sold 3.6 million more Xbox 360 units than Sony has PS3s, and with the newly released Xbox 360 S, along side the Kinect motion sensing peripheral, the Xbox looks likely to maintain its dominance in the market.
