Starcraft could well be a superb award winning game but it is apparently causing a few hardware problems as well for gamers who are unaware of how taxing it can be on graphics cards.
Blizzard, the game's publisher, issued a statement saying that certain screens make the graphic hardware "work pretty hard" before adding that "Screens that are light on detail may make your system overheat if cooling is overall insufficient. This is because the game has nothing to do so it is primarily just working on drawing the screen very quickly."
A temporary solution is to go to Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt file and add these lines:
The issue appears to affect both ATI and Nvidia cards and can also be solved by activating Vsync apparently. It has also been confirmed that it is present both in the beta and the full version of the game.
It is likely though that poor cooling (combined with poor PC placement, lack of hardware hygiene and an overclocked system) may cause the card to fry up completely.
