O2 has confirmed that the Android 2.2 update for Motorola's Droid smartphone will be released in Europe late this September, tech news site Euro Droid reported on Monday.
The mobile network service provider stated on its official German Twitter account that the latest Android operating system update is expected to arrive in mid to late September this year.
The update is expected to be released in Europe with the renamed Droid smartphone, Motorola Milestone.
Motorola's Droid first went on sale in the US in November 2009 and was the first device to run the Android 2.0 operating system.
Android 2.2 offers improved features and performance over previous iterations of the operating system.The update will bring support for Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 to the smartphones.
O2 has also confirmed that it will also be releasing the Android 2.2 update for HTC’s Desire smartphone in Europe this August.
