No Crysis 2 for Christmas

Schedule shot down

If you were hoping to find a copy of Crysis 2 in your Christmas stocking this year you'd better think again.

Buried deep within a bunch of boring stuff about money published by game publisher Electronic Arts, Kiwi tech site Top News has uncovered a revised release schedule for the highly-anticipated multi-platform shooter which pegs the release date at first 'quarter 2011' rather than the previous 'Holiday 2010'.

Game developer Crytek says the game, which will have simultaneous releases on PC, Xbox and PS3, is being built on a brand new multi-platform development system which could explain the unexpected delay.

The game's jungle-based predecessor is so demanding on PC architecture that it has become a benchmarking tool for many PC enthusiasts with high frame rates bringing bragging rights and kudos for hard-core gamers and overclockers alike.

The latest instalment in the franchise moves the action from the sweaty jungle to the sweaty streets of up-state New York.
