Digg To Investigate Conservative Censorship Claims

Digg is set to investigate claims that its conservative members are actively seeking to censor content deemed to be 'leftist' or 'progressive' on its site.

An independent undercover investigation conducted by online magazine AlterNet has revealed that a group of Digg members - the 'Digg Patriots' - owns and manipulates a significant number of Digg accounts in order to bury articles on the site.

The group is said to suppress stories on the site's upcoming page, preventing them from making it onto the front page to be read by thousands of people.

According to AlterNet, the group takes about an hour to bury a targeted article on the platform.

Digg Patriots is said to be founded on 21t May 2009 and comprises of hundreds of Conservatives who have managed to post around 40,000 articles on Digg - around 3,000 to 4,000 articles per month.

AlterNet explains that the group members “hate Obama. They hate progressives. They hate the UN, diplomacy, and peace/disarmament efforts. They hate reforms of health care, Wall St, and immigration. They hate science, in fact many are creationists, and some even blog about it.”
