American broadcaster ABC has announced that it is to launch its Video on Demand (VoD) service outside of North America for the first time.
ABC has signed a deal with UK-based broadband and telephony service provider BT Vision to offer its first VoD service in the country, the Guardian reported on Thursday.
A subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, ABC TV will offer some of its most popular TV shows airing in the United States, including 'Cougar Town', 'Private Practice', 'Desperate Housewives', 'Criminal Minds', 'Brothers & Sisters', 'Lost', 'Grey's Anatomy', and 'Ugly Betty.'
"The ABC brand stands for innovative, high quality US television production. Leveraging this to launch an ABC TV On Demand branded service is a logical next step in our digital distribution strategy," said Catherine Powell, senior vice president and general manager of media distribution for Disney in EMEA.
The VoD service will be available in a pack of £6.99 per month, while each episode will cost the viewer 99p to view.
