Google Acquires Another Company, Social Deck

In an effort to redouble the development of its own social networking platform, search engine giant Google has acquired SocialDeck which develops social video games.

According to  the Wall Street Journal Social Deck is a Canadian start-up that develops video game titles for social networking platforms and mobile phones. 

"We were very impressed with the team's talent as well as the technically advanced platform engaging mobile experiences they've built. we think they'll be great contributors in partnership with the Google Waterloo team," Google said in a statement.

Based in Toronto, Canada and San Francisco, USA, Social Deck Inc. has developed multi-player gaming titles including Shake & Spell, PetHero and Color Connect for social networking giant Facebook, Apple's iOS platform, Research In Motion’s BlackBerry devices.

Social Deck is the fifth company to be acquired by Mountain View, California-based Google Inc. in the month of August after Slide, Jambool, Like.com and more recently Angstro.
