The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone is all set receive an update for its Android operating system within weeks and nearly seven months after it was first previewed in Barcelona in February.
The X10 will be upgraded to Android OS 2.1 rather than Froyo and it is not known whether other Android-based handsets of the same stable (the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro) will also get the update.
The news, which was announced by the company on its official UK Twitter page, states that the over-the-air update will reach current owners of the smartphone by the end of September.
However, it has not been clarified by the company whether the update will reach Xperia owners in the United Kingdom only or Xperia X10 consumers globally.
Sony had earlier planned to release the Android 2.1 update to X10 in the fourth quarter of this year, but now, the company seems to be in a hurry to release the update in September.
Other manufacturers like HTC and Dell have already got plans to update Andoird OS devices prior to OS 2.x to either Eclair or Froyo. Android OS 3.0, otherwise known as Gingerbread, is expected to be released next month as well.
