IBM has rolled out a new four socket BladeCenter server that comes equiped with AMD's Opteron 6100 processor, codenamed Magny-Cours and launched back in March.
Big Blue now joins ranks with Dell, Acer and Hewlett-Packard in offering server system based on Opteron 6100 processor.
Interestingly, Oracle is yet to release a server system based on the Opteron family of processors, which is slightly odd given that Oracle-owned Sun Microsystems had been a long standing AMD OEM partner.
In a statement to IT Pro, Bob Galush, vice president of System X at IBM, said that “The addition of the System x3755 M3 to our portfolio is another example of our focus on client solutions. Clients that run heavily threaded workloads like Java, virtualisation and transaction processing can increase their performance with a dense, cost-effective solution.”
Benchmarks published about the Magny-Cours Opteron have been fairly mixed given the fact that Intel has since overhauled its own Xeon range of servers.
