Toshiba recalls 41,000 burn hazard laptops

Toshiba is recalling 41,000 T Series notebook computers because they present a burn hazard.

Users of Satellite T135, Satellite T135D and Satellite ProT130 laptops are advised to stop using the hardware immediately. They are also advised to download and install the latest version of Toshiba's BIOS which will detect whether the hardware is overheating. Presumably, you should do this without using the power supply, as this is apparently the source of the problem.

Toshiba says it has so far received 129 reports of the power socket overheating and deforming the plastic case of the PC.

Two unfortunate punters have reported minor burns "which did not require medical treatment" and another two reported "minor property damage".

The units were sold worldwide between August 2009 and August 2010 and in this case all serial numbers are included in the recall.

Toshiba says the BIOS application will give further instructions as to whether a repair is required and that anyone without access to the Internet should contact them directly.
