UK faces Samsung Galaxy Tab rip-off

Three times US price, say rumours

UK and European consumers can look forward to paying more than their counterparts across the Atlantic, as the 7in Samsung Galaxy Tab looks set to become the next high-tech rip-off to hit these shores.

The much-anticipated Android-based tablet, which was unveiled at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin last week, has gone on pre-order at Expansys ready for shipping on 11 October, priced at an eye-watering £679.99.

But if a report on tech blog Engadget of hints made by a Samsung executive to the Wall Street Journal prove correct, consumers Stateside will be able to get their hands on the iPad rival for as little as $200-300, thanks to subsidies from US mobile networks.

Another source at Samsung has suggested to the Korea Times that the US price will be somewhere between $300 and $400.

Either way, if you're buying in pounds and pence, it's sounding like another right royal rip-off.
