Google launches instant search

Search as you type

Google has announced Google Instant search which produces search results as soon as your fingers hit the keyboard.

The search engine dynamically displays and updates search results with every key stroke and predicts results based on what you type.

Google has released limited demos of search-as-you-type functionality before now but last night's launch will see the new technology released to all.

Google Instant constantly attempts to predict what you are going to type and displays its predictions if grey text in the input window. If what you are thinking of pops up, all you have yo do is look down at the constantly updated search results to see if what you are looking for has popped up.

Google reckons the new technology saves between two and five seconds for every search.

Google Instant is currently only available to logged-in Gmail customers with a suitable browser, but the outfit says it will eventually roll the service out to all geographies and platforms.
