Microsoft may be readying to launch the first Windows Phone 7-based device on 11 October.
Citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, tech news site Pocket-Lint reports that the first Windows Phone 7 smartphone will be launched on 11 October at a special event in New York.
According to Pocket-Lint's sources, following the launch, the phone will then be available for purchase by the end of the month.
The Windows Phone 7 OS, which was first announced by Microsoft during the Mobile World Congress in 2010, will come fully integrated with the company's Xbox 360 games console and Zune music management platform.
The rumour follows the release of the first online advert for the Windows Phone 7 platform, which aired during a secret screening of Lawrence of Arabia.
Microsoft has named Asus, Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung as hardware partners for the Windows Phone 7 platform.
