Grand Theft auto games to hit the Mac

Better late than never

Rockstar Games has announced that it will release a bundle of three Grand Theft Auto games on the Mac.

The controversial games which send players on a one-man crime wave in a vast imaginary city will be released as the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy and will include Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The surprise announcement was made as part of a fan-driven Q&A session posted on Rock Star's own news site. The British game developer said it would have "much more info and a proper announcement soon."

Game developers have started to take the OSX platform far more seriously since Mac games were included in Valve's web-based Steam game delivery platform a few months ago.

Even Steve Jobs has had to admit that gaming has become an important part of the Apple ethos, especially as the company's portable devices including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad have more game-playing users than Nintendo and Sony's hand-held offerings combined.
