4Chan Hits Entertainment Industry with DDoS Attacks

Hackers from 4Chan have attacked websites belonging to the Motion Picture Association of America, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Aiplex Software.

The Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack comes after Hollywood studios and record companies announced that they would enhance their efforts to tackle online piracy, something that they claim is seriously affecting their business.

A spokesperson for the MPAA said in a statement to Reuters: “The MPAA is aware of the illegal attack and has taken measures to mitigate the effect of any denial-of-service attack.”

The studios are working with Aiplex Software, which attacks all torrent websites that host copyright infringing media that leads to piracy, resulting in the loss of billions of dollars for the media industry.

The DDoS attack on the MPAA website brought it down for almost 22 hours, following which the RIAA website was attacked. Aiplex Software website also suffered a downtime of 24 hours before it came back online.
