Video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) has claimed that Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console has the potential to beat rival Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the UK gaming market.

EA, the publisher behind blockbuster games like Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, The Sims, Battlefield, said that despite a slow start in the global market, the PS3 gaming console is catching up with its rivals in terms of sales and popularity and may soon conquer the UK video game market.

Jens Uwe Intat, the senior vice president of EA's European division, said during an interview with MVC UK that “We could certainly see Sony come back – in the UK it’s still a head-to-head competition between PlayStation and Xbox, but on the continent Sony is traditionally stronger than Microsoft.”

He also added that competition between the two companies was better for EA because "as long as they’re competing to get more consumers in, there are more people we can sell games to."

Intat also indicated that the video game publishing house will soon release games compatible with Sony Move and Microsoft's Kinect.

Both peripherals have a huge potential of making it big in the global as well as European video game markets as they take on Nintendo's traditional casual gamer audience.
