Apple patents dual-docking iPad

Apple has applied for a patent for a variant iPad design with a second 30-pin Dock Connector which would allow the device to sit in charging cradles in either landscape of portrait modes.

Spotted by the always reliable Patently Apple, the proposed design would allow the bookish iPad to behave more like a traditional computer monitor when allied with the likes of Apple's own iPad Dock or iPad Keyboard as well as a growing number of third-party accessories.

The patent paperwork, which turned up in China according to the source, also included applications for a mysterious 'Smart Bezel' which is the cause of all kinds of conjecture, and designs for a multi-flash camera device which uses an array of discrete light source alongside an optical zoom lens, and could end up in future Apple devices.
