Rumours that Mighty Microsoft might be mulling buying up Adobe Systems sent the share price of the latter spiralling skyward yesterday, ending 12 per cent up.
A report in the The New York Times claimed Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer met with Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen recently to discuss "closer collaboration".
That sent investors into a frenzy, snaffling up Adobe shares like there's a big tomorrow with 'pay day' written on it.
Closer collaboration between Microsoft and Adobe makes some sense. Microsoft buying Adobe makes about as much sense as Tesco buying Lidl.
That didn't stop speculators speculating on the speculation. Trying to figure out how long to hang on to their certificates in order to minimise their losses.
Sell, you daft apeth. Sell!
