It's Get Online Week

This week has been declared Get Online Week by the powers that be, and to encourage people to learn the benefits of the digital age there are some pretty spiffy prizes up for grabs.

Get Online Week, running from the 18th to the 24th of October, is organised by UK Online Centres, which is planning a series of events across the country aimed at getting the digital have-nots up to speed with the wonder that is the Web.

While you, dear reader, likely need no encouragement - unless you're having a friend print out a daily summary of THINQ articles to be posted to you at the end of the day - there are still plenty of people across the UK with IT skills that don't quite measure up, and they're the people that Get Online Week is targeting.

As well as a little Flash shooting gallery, designed to help people brush up on their mousing skills, the official site allows users to sign up for a free e-mail account - which has the added bonus of giving them free access to over thirty courses designed to teach them what they need to know about the online world.

Better still, those that complete the sign-up process are entered into a competition to win an Apple iPad, one of twenty Nintendo DS consoles, one of fifty Internet-enabled TV boxes, or one of fifty mobile broadband dongles with BT Openzone voucher.

More information, plus the all-important competition entry details, is available at the official Get Online Week website.
