MacBook Pros get speed bump

Popping up amid the hoopla surrounding the new MacBook Air release on Wednesday was one of Apple's “stealth” hardware upgrades, in the form of a faster CPU option for the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models.

On both machines you can now upgrade from the previous high end configuration 2.66 GHz Core i7 chip to a 2.8 GHz Core i7 for an extra £160.00 over the £1,799 price of the 15-inch: 2.66GHz unit or £320 for the 17-inch Core i5 2.53GHz MacBook Pro.

The prices seem a bit steep for such a relatively modest bump in speed from what are already exceedingly fast computers, but if you absolutely must have the latest and greatest, dig out the plastic and rock on.
