New Wi-Fi Direct technology developed by the Wi-Fi alliance allows to compatible devices to connect with each other without an internet connection or any other network.
According to Information Week, teh Wi-Fi Alliance has said that the first batch of products compatible with the technology have already received certification and they will land in the market soon enough.
The very first Wi-Fi Direct products have been developed by Atheros, Broadcom, Intel, Ralink and Realtek.
The Wi-Fi alliance added that the Wi-Fi Direct products will be able to connect to devices that simply have Wi-Fi connectivity as well.
Edgar Figueroa, CEO of the Wi-Fi Alliance, said in a statement: “Wi-Fi Direct empowers users to connect devices -- when, where and how they want to -- and our certification program delivers products that work well together, regardless of the brand.”
The technology is set to be widely adopted as only a software update is required to get the technology working on existing devices.
