Webroot has acquired UK-based anti-virus firm Prevx in order to strengthen its cloud computing security portofolio.
According to tech news site PC Mag, the acquisition will see Mel Morris, founder and chief executive of Prevx, joining Webroot as the vice president of its Prevx division.
By merging Prevx's offering with its own product portfolio, Webroot plans to change the security solutions market by removing the user component from their anti-virus software and deliver it as a cloud-based service.
Mel Morris said in a statement to PC Mag: “The bad guys keep pushing more money into it and getting more return. We're now at a crossroads; the old solutions don't work. Webroot shares our desire to innovate at a time when our industry has fallen behind in the war against online crime.”
The two executives are confident about the prospects of the venture and have promised new products to be rolled out as soon as they finish integrating their security offerings.
