Apple has increased its dominance over the tablet PC market for the 3rd quarter of 2010.
Boosted by limited competition, iPad shipments in Q3 accounted for 95 per cent of the total market share, research firm SA said on Tuesday.
"The tablet wars are up and running. Apple has quickly leveraged its famous brand, an extensive retail presence and user-friendly design to develop the tablet segment into a multi-billion-dollar global business," said SA analyst Neil Mawston.
Bloomberg reports that Google is set to eat into Apple's share as the likes of Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Dell prepare to release their own Android-based tablet devices to challenge the iPad
Android accounted for just 2.3 per cent of the market share in the third quarter, but, with the arrival of new models like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, its market share is expected to surge in the fourth quarter.
Further competition for the iPad is already growing as HP prepares to launch its own webOS-based tablet and RIM’s readies its BlackBerry PlayBook device for release.
