Facebook has announced a new mobile deals service, set to allow Facebook Places users to make use of special offers and discounts when they walk into a partner store.
The service, Facebook Deals, was launched during a mobile event at the company's Palo Alto, California headquarters on Wednesday.
Facebook Deals will be used by restaurants, retail chains and businesses to promote themselves on the social network by offering Facebook Places users to take part in special offers and discounts every time they walk into a participating store.
Deals is similar to services offered by Foursquare, but has an edge over its competition thanks to the 200 million mobile users Facebook gets each month.
Facebook Deals launch partners include clothing line GAP, which will be handing out a free pair of jeans each to the first 10,000 Facebook Places users that enter its retail outlets.
Another partner is McDonalds, which has pledged to donate $1 to children's charity for every check-in it receives.
The service is already available in the US, and is set to be available in the UK soon.
