BBC iPlayer comes to BlackBerry

Canadian mobile phone manufacture Research In Motion has released the BBC iPlayer application, for use with their recent top tier BlackBerry devices.

The app is available from the BlackBerry App World and has the same regular iPlayer streamed content as the desktop version, with access to the past seven days Beeb content in addition to other shows and radio programmes.

BBC iPlayer for the BlackBerry is supported by the BlackBerry Storm 2, BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphones with OS 5 or above and over a 3G or WIFI connection.

RIM joins the Android, Symbian, Samsung Wave and iPhones for viewing the UK broadcaster's media on a mobile device - although, not all of those handsets have access to the same features.

Android and Apple devices cannot access the iPlayer's programmes over 3G, nor can they actually download content where the BlackBerry version is in the same proverbial boat.

The BBC application is available now from the BlackBerry App Store, where for an optimal viewing experience RIM recommend WIFI and the only mobile phone networks that supports the iPlayer streaming over 3G are Three and Vodafone.
