Blockbuster first person shooter, Call of Duty : Black Ops, has raked in $360 million in one day in the US and in the UK alone according to latest figures released by the CEO of Activision.
Bobby Kotick said in a statement that "There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million".
MW2 managed $310 million over the same period; The figures best that of Modern Warfare 2 and consolidate the franchise's reputation as the most lucrative in the gaming industry; 5.6 million units of Call Of Duty : Black Ops have been sold in the first 24 hours compared to 4.7 million for MW2 last year.
This means that the game is on course to become the best selling video game ever and could significantly increase the number of players hooked to the franchise which currently stands at around 26 million.
The game, which is rated 18, is said to have sold seven million copies on day one with 4.5 million preorders up to the launch.
Figures for other countries have yet to be added to the total and it is likely that Black Ops will surpass $1 billion worth of revenue by the end of the year. Follow our coverage of Call of Duty : Black Ops here.
