Nokia Ovi Store Surpasses 3 Million Downloads Per Day
Nokia has announced that downloads from its Ovi application store have surpassed 3 million downloads every day.
The Finnish smartphone giant said that daily downloads have grown significantly from two months ago, when Nokia reported it was receiving around 2 million downloads per day.
The company, which is falling behind Apple, RIM and Google in smartphone sales, is attributing the rise in the number of daily downloads to its line-up of smartphones based on Symbian^3, the first of which being the new N8.
Nokia said that the device coupled with the new OS was generating a lot of buzz among users and developers alike.
Some of the most popular Ovi Store apps cited by Nokia include Swype, a touch enabled typing application, NHL GameCenter and WhatsApp Messenger.
Tero Ojanperae, Executive Vice President, Services, Nokia, said in a statement: “Ovi Store is on a strong trajectory fuelled by new apps and games from a growing number of partners and more than 250,000 new consumers signing up for Ovi every day.”
