Apple has issued an official press release stating that the iOS 4.2 will be available today for download for all three iOS platforms, the iPad, the iPhone and the iPod Touch, meaning that for the first time ever, the three mobile markets from Apple will receive their OS updates at the same time.

Steve jobs said in the statement that “iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season” before adding that “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit."

As mentioned before, iPad owers will benefit from Find My iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint as well as a host of other minor updates.

Apple has also confirmed that multitasking will NOT have any negative impact on the iPad's "legendary" battery life which currently stands at nearly 10 hours when using only Wi-Fi. Users can get hold of the firmware update by checking through iTunes.
