Facebook App From Getjar Downloads Hit 100 Million

Users have downloaded the Facebook app from Getjar a record breaking 100 million times, making it the first application on the platform to reach the milestone.

According to PC Mag, even though 50 per cent of the Facebook apps were downloaded for Nokia smartphones, Google's Android is the fastest growing OS on the app store.

Patrick Mork, chief marketing officer for GetJar, said in a statement: “We’re proud to have helped bring the Facebook mobile experience to tens of millions of people regardless of their mobile platform, phone model or carrier.”

The platform, which calls itself the largest open app store in the world, offers apps for almost every major platform in the market including iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile and RIM.

In a blog post, GetJar also announced the release of AppIt!, a function which will allow developers to assign a URL to a particular application. Users will be able to download that app by simply going to the URL.
