Opera final arrives for Symbian

Popular Internet browsing software for mobile devices Opera has been released for handsets running the Symbian OS, in the final version of Opera Mobile 10.1.

The new version of the web surfing tool is for the latest iteration of Symbian, along with S60 based mobile phones and arrives with faster browsing abilities and quicker performance in JavaScript utilisation.

Opera Mobile 10.1 uses the same Carakan JavaScript engine that drives the desktop version of the software, as a result it's just under 10 times faster than version 10.0 in Java tests.

Seen for the first time in 10.1 is Geolocation support, for honing down the location to offer a better set of search results in terms of maps and nearby services.

Regular Opera features such as the favourite bookmarks known as Speed Dial and also tabbed browsing are in this version for the Symbian OS.

Opera Turbo is now part and parcel of the Mobile 10.1, with its web compression for use on slower mobile phone networks to bring the traffic down to as little as 20-percent of the original size.

The new browser can also take advantage of kinetics scrolling on touch screens, auto-rotation to landscape mode and there's a built-in virtual keyboard too.

Opera Mobile 10.1 can be downloaded now for Symbian^3, Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition mobile phones from m.opera.com.
