Facebook Now Second Highest Driver Of Video Traffic Behind Google

Social networking platform Facebook is now sending more web traffic to video sites than Yahoo, whilst Google continues to lead.

According to new data (PDF) released by Brightcove and TubeMogul, Facebook accounted for 9.6 per cent of all referral traffic to media sites in the third quarter.

Facebook is the only platform that has grown since the second quarter, with Google, Yahoo and Bing registering a decline.

Even with Facebook's growth, the platform is far from surpassing Google, which accounts for more than 50 per cent of website referral traffic.

Strangely, the data released by the companies did not include YouTube, the worlds largest video sharing website.

When asked about the exclusion of YouTube from the data, a Brightcove spokesperson told AllFacebook that: “The report is based on Brightcove customer data, and by default that means non-YouTube player data, so YouTube traffic or referrals is not at all represented in this sample.”
