Social networking platform Facebook has dished out the Facebook Happiness Index for the UK, derived after analysing status messages posted by Britons all year long.
Facebook's data, which is available through a Gross National Happiness app, reveals that sunshine and The X Factor final made Britons very happy.
Based on the number of positive words used in status messages, Facebook determined that Britons were the happiest on May 23rd, when the temperature soared past the 20 degree Celsius mark and on December 12th when Matt Cardle won the popular X-Factor talent show.
Another person that made Britons happy was Nick Clegg, a Liberal Democrat leader who took part in a leader's for the general election campaign on April 17th.
Sophy Silver, a spokesperson for Facebook, told Metro that “This data shows that Facebook can provide a real litmus test of the mood of the nation, as people join together through happy and sad times to share key sporting, political and cultural moments.”
