Online retail giant Amazon has announced that the latest 3rd generation Kindle has become the best-selling item of all time, edging out the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book.
In a press release, the company also revealed that on its peak retail day, which was November 29th, consumers bought 13.7 million items worldwide, which breaks down into 158 items purchased every second.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO, said in a statement that “We're grateful to the millions of customers who have made the all-new Kindle the bestselling product in the history of Amazon - surpassing Harry Potter 7.”
The company also noted that the latest onslaught of tablet devices had done little to disturb the rate at which the Kindle e-reader device was growing.
Amazon said that even people with tablet devices like the iPad or the Galaxy Tab were also purchasing the Kindle, using it for reading sessions while the tablet device was used to play games and access the web.
