The future is bright for PlayStation phone

Coming to Orange

The gadget formerly known as the PlayStation phone, the Xperia Play, will only be available on the Orange network on launch according to the rumour mill.

Mobile Magazine says it has it on good authority that Sony Ericsson will sign an exclusive deal for the Android-powered mobile phone-cum gaming console with Everything Everywhere, which will punt out the portable powerhouse through its Orange brand.

All eyes are looking towards the Mobile World Congress which kicks of in Barcelona on February 14th, at which the Xperia Play is expected to make its official debut.

Sony has done little to keep the rumour mill starved of information with multiple 'leaks' keeping the blogosphere on the boil. In fact the entire gadget has already been broken down into its constituent parts despite the fact it doesn't officially exist.

The teardown revealed a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 processor which will almost certainly run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with a custom skin, and a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU.

The device is widely expected to run PSP- and PS One-ported games using a custom PlayStation App and features 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, a Micro SD slot for extra storage and a Micro USB port for getting stuff off and on it.

Mr Sony is saying nothing, likewise Mr Ericsson.
