Apple’s App store hits a new high

More apps leeched than ever

Makers of the iPhone has announced 10 billion applications have been downloaded from its mobile device App Store, on more than 160 million of their products.

That new milestone has been reached in just two and a half years, from more than 350,000 apps that are now for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

These applications are for users in 90 countries, with 20 different categories that include games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel; where there are more than 60,000 applications solely for the iPad.

In September last year, Steve Jobs unveiled the App Store had surpassed the 6.5 billion mark of downloaded applications where there were 200,000 apps being downloaded every second.

At the same event it was also made public the App Store actually had then reached 250,000 apps, where 25,000 of them were for the iPad alone.

Apple has awarded the owner of the 10 billionth downloaded app a $10,000 iTunes Gift card, which went to someone from  Kent for the Paper Glider application.
