Facebook has announced that it will be mandatory for developers to use Facebook Credits on all on-site games from July 2011.
The company launched Facebook Credits as a form of virtual currency to allow users to purchase in-game merchandise and other items on the platform.
According to Facebook, the Credits are used in 350 applications from 150 developers and comprise of 70 per cent of all virtual transactions on the platform.
In a blog post, Facebook platform marketing manager Deborah Liu said that developers will not be forced to use Facebook Credits as the only form of currency on their games, although added that developers who chose full Facebook Credits integration will qualify for some incentives.
“Over the past six months, we've worked closely with many developers who are using Facebook Credits as their in-game currency to provide a seamless user experience and drive increased ARPU,” she wrote.
