Facebook To Expand Ad Network Beyond Games

Facebook is planning to extend its vast advertising networking beyond social games on the platform.

Facebook business director Dan Rose, speaking at the DLD media conference in Munich, said that although games were the leading mode for advertising on the platform, other aspects were becoming increasingly social, allowing the company to diversify into other areas.

“As more and more categories become social, certainly that's an opportunity for us from an advertising perspective. We're in the middle of a transformation. We're moving from the information web to the social web. We're moving from the wisdom of crowds to the wisdom of friends,” Rose said during the event.

He also said that music and video offered interesting opportunities for the company and could be the next categories that Facebook offers for advertising.

Facebook's popularity has grown to more than 500 million users worldwide, creating a massive advertising platform for the company. Facebook currently uses games from developers like Zynga to advertise.
