Sony Ericsson Xperia Play To Debut On O2, Vodafone

Both Vodafone and O2 are set to sell the new Sony Xperia Play handset as soon as it goes on sale with others such as Everything Everywhere and Three UK likely to follow suit.

O2 confirmed a tweet on Twitter that the phone would go on sale with Vodafone confirming to Pocket-lint that they will also carry the Playstation Phone.

It is unlikely that either O2 or Vodafone will play the exclusivity card because the stakes are too high for Sony Ericsson; when it comes to mobile gaming, it is land grabbing that matters the most.

The Xperia Play smartphone will come with a 4-inch, 854x400 pixels screen resolution, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 512MB RAM.

More importantly the handset sports the same game controls as the current Playstation Portable with dual control pads and even support for the old Playstation games.

The handset - which will run Android 2.3 and the new Playstation Suite - will be launched at the forthcoming MWC 2011 in Barcelona and we will cover the event live next Sunday.

Less than 24 hours ago, Sony Ericsson published a video showing the Android robot getting human thumbs transplanted to its forearm.
