Amazon Kindle Update Adds 'Real' Page Numbers

Amazon is set to add a string of new features and tweaks to its new generation Kindle device, including real page numbers and social networking.

In a blog post, Amazon said that the upcoming firmware 3.1 update for the new Kindle will bring a whole load of new features like Public Notes, Real Page Numbers, social networking options and an updated layout for viewing newspapers and magazines.

The Public Notes allows users to share their notes and highlights for a particular book with other Kindle users and read the notes of the people they follow.

On finishing their book, users will be able to rate it and send messages about it via their social network. Amazon has also enhanced the newspaper and magazine layout, allowing users to view a quick snapshot of news articles to help them decide which one to read first.

“All latest generation Kindle and Kindle 3G customers will receive this software update automatically via Wi-Fi once it becomes available. We will update the Kindle Community forum when we complete the Early Preview and begin to automatically deliver the update,” the company said in a statement.
