Users of social networking platform Facebook will now be able to get email notifications if any of their 'unavailable' friends if any of their contacts breaks up.
The Break-up Notifier app, which has been created by developer Dan Loewenherz, allows users to get notified whenever the people important to them change their relationship status on Facebook.
Facebook users can log-in to the app using their Facebook IDs and select the people whose relationship status is important to them. Then, whenever those people change their relationship status, users will be notified about it. The founder explained how he came up with the idea for the new app.
“A few days ago, my fiancee and her mom were talking about setting up a nice guy with my fiancee's sister. Unfortunately, the said guy is in a relationship. My mother-in-law to be suggested it would be nice to know when the relationship was over (jokingly),” Loewenherz said in a statement.
“I blurted out that I could make something that could do that in a couple of hours. By then, I knew I had to do it,” he added.
Mr Loewenherz said that he had built in some safety mechanisms, such as a warning to anyone with a relationship status of married that they are advised not to use the service.
