O2 has confirmed via Twitter that it will be the only one in the country to offer the white version of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, formerly known as the Playstation Phone.
The handset, which uses a single core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 with an Adreno 205, was officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week and has already been confirmed on all major UK mobile networks.
The Xperia Play differs from other gaming handsets by offering a dedicated slideout gamepad with shoulder buttons, analogue touchpads and a d-pad, something that will surely lure hardcore gamers to the platform.
It also has a 4-inch touchscreen display with a 854x480 pixels display and is powered by Android 2.3 with the Playstation Suite. It was also the first device to receive the "Playstation Certified" stamp.
Early tests we've seen at MWC shows a very smooth gaming experience, one which is no longer marred by having two thumbs on the screen.
The graphics are as good as any mobile platforms and there are already dozens of developers that have confirmed their interests in the Xperia Play already.
The handset is already available on pre-order for as little as £30.64 from T-Mobile (via Buymobilesphones) with 900 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited data bundle.
