Nintendo 3DS Breaks Pre-Order Record On Amazon UK

Amazon UK has announced that Nintendo's 3DS handheld device has become the most pre-ordered gaming console in its history, beating Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's own Wii gaming consoles.

The Sony PlayStation 3 had broken pre-order records back in 2007, but with a week still to go before its retail launch, the 3DS has managed to surpass PS3's pre-orders by 20 per cent. Amazon.co.uk also reported that 3DS has also had the maximum pre-orders received by any DS console, beating the Nintendo Dsi with more than 255 pe rcent margin.

Chris Poad, Director of Video Games at Amazon.co.uk Ltd, said in a statement to Nintendo Universe, “It’s unusual for a handheld console to attract this amount of excitement in the run up to launch, such high levels of interest are normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the ground-breaking Nintendo Wii and last year’s Microsoft Kinect.”

A number of games for the console feature in Amazon's top 20 Hot Future Releases including; Ridge Racer 3D, Pilot Wings Resort, Super Monkey Ball 3D, Rayman 3D and Super Street Fighter IV.

The console, which will allow users to play 3D video games without the need for special glasses, will be launched in the UK on March 25th, retailing at £187 on Amazon.co.uk.
