Microsoft is currently performing a series of tests on its new Xbox 360 disc format and is seeking multiple thousands of testers for the project.
Major Nelson, the gamertag for Xbox Live’s prgramming director Larry Hryb, wrote on his blog, “We are conducting an open call for US based participants for a public preview to help us prepare for an updated Xbox 360 disc format.”
The criteria for qualifying as a tester for the project is simply - you need to be a resident of the US continental region, and be the owner of an Xbox 360 console.
Apart from this request, the company is refraining from making any further statement regarding the details of this new disc format. But things are expected to take off relatively soon, probably somewhere within the next two weeks.
Those wanting to take part in the program, need to visit http://connect.microsoft.com/xboxliveupdate, and then sign in with their Windows Live Ids used for connecting to Xbox Live and complete the registration survey.
According to the company, even though both Xbox Gold and Silver members can sign up to participate, the Gold members will be given priority.
The rumours are that the disc will come with an additional gigabyte of memory which will be available for developers.
