Google maps gets updated for Android

Internet search engine giant Google has released a new version of their mapping software for their own mobile OS, which brings with it a history dashboard amongst other new items in version 5.3.

The update version of Google Maps for the Android OS now allows you to see your location history, in easy to locate dashboard item with the ability to even check in at home and rate characteristics about various places too.

The location history dashboard shows trends of your whereabouts from Google latitude. This was only previously available on a computer, where now it’s been brought to the mobile version of the application.

This aspect of the new version of Google maps 5.3 displays how far you’ve travelled, along with how long you’ve spent out, at work or at home by using the view location history via the latitude profile.

It’s also possible to check in at a ‘home’ location in a new aspect of the software, which has the added ability to share the location with friends and family when you’re not somewhere such as at work, or other locations. Also whenever approaching the pre-set home location, it will appear at the top of places nearby as well for the very first time.

Google Maps for their mobile OS is available from the Android Market, on devices that are running Android OS 1.6 onwards.
