iPad Causing Publishing Companies To Go Bust, Congressman Claims

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr, might have found a culprit for America’s rising unemployment rate – the iPad, even though he owns an iPad himself. Jackson was commenting on Borders Books’ recent bankruptcy when he suggested that the iPad had been devouring the market share of publishing companies.

"Why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes and Noble? Just buy an iPad and download your book, download your newspaper, download your magazine. But what becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs? Well, in the not-too-distant future, such jobs simply won't exist." the Congressman said.

Apple might be “guilty” of reducing the need for a big library at home, but it sure pleads innocent when charged with the unemployment. SEC reported last year that Apple’s manpower has grown to 46,000 which represents a whopping 35% increase in employees year on year, even if, as Jackson also mentioned, Apple’s products are being fabricated in China.

It’s funny to notice though, that roughly one month ago, Jackson “praised” Apple’s tablet and even suggested that every student should be given an iPad, saying, "These devices are revolutionizing our country — and they will fundamentally alter how we will educate our children."
